As a parent I don't know how students can find the time to search and apply for scholarships! Our daughter works 24-30 hours per week, has hours of required reading and homework for the upcoming freshman year and still tries to find some time to enjoy the summer and see friends before she sets off to college in a couple weeks. There are so many scholarship web sites and search engines that turn up many of the same scholarships that it get confusing and frustrating. It seems the odds are slim to none of getting a scholarship on line. We've submitted dozens upon dozens over the past year........seems like such a waste of valuable time.

My wish my mom can help me, but she can't because she doesn't know how to read and write in English. She also doesn't know how to speak English, too. SO, I have to try my best and do everyhting on my own.

As an educated parent (both my husband and I have obtained college degrees) of an only child, I have spent a large amount of time preparing my daughter for college and life after college. We have been encouraging her to do her best in school, tried to instill high standards of manners, thought processes, healthy habits, and I do the majority of the scholarship research and sit with her while she applies. This way I can answer any questions she has as well as keep an active eye on where she is enrolling (trying to ensure she only enters real sites and avoids privacy issues).

Thing that I've notice with a lot of the scholarships I've been coming across is that a good bit of are geared toward students that are still in high school. Start saving early even if it doesn't seem likely that they will go. Get a little savings account where the money can be stashed for them an restrict their access to the account until they actually enter college. If college is a no go then restrict access till they graduate high school.

No, I'm not a parent but thought I throw something out there.

As for winning scholarships, the competition has increased now that there are restricts/limitations on federal funding for school. So keep applying and hope for the best.
